How to manage heat stress in poultry farming | How to cool down backyard chicken in Summer

Heat stress is biggest problem face by poultry farmer in summer. They face high mortality due to heat stock. In this blog we share knowlede about how to manage heat stress in poultry or backyard chicken farming.

Here some effective ways to mange heat stress in poultry.

1. Provide fresh water.
2. Electrolytes.
3. Provide shade.
4. Reduce overcrowding.
5. Feed Timing.
6. Provide Dust bath.
7. Ventilation.

Provide fresh Water 

In summer Chicken need lot amount of water. Make sure always serve the cool or fresh water. The ideal water temperature for poultry or backyard chicken in summer is 50degree farenheight. Dont use dirty or fungi water they cause seriouse diseases in poultry like salmonella typhi, diarrhea, or others. Always use electrolytes or multivitamin in water.

Electrolytes

Electrolytes are benificall impact on chicken in hot summer. They help to hydrate the chicken body and also positive impact the chicken growth in hot summer. Add comercial electrolyte or home made elctrolye in water and serve the chicken. Here the recpie of home made electroltye for birds and especially poultry. 1 kg suger, 1oo gram pink salt, 100 gram baking soda this all ingeredients are mix well in mixi and store cool place. Dosage: 1gram in 2liter water. Precaution: Dont use over dosage they cause bad impact on chicken kidney.

Provide shade

Chicken need shade in hot summer. If your coop have not natural shade like tree shade so create the clothe shade, even you use old bed sheet for shade. Make sure Shade cover all the coop area.

Reduce overcrowding

Overcrowding is big source of heat stress. Provide space for chicken to move dont provide congested area. They help to stress free and cool them. If you have 2o backyard chicken they required 80 to 1oo square feet area in coop or outer area they need 150 to 250 square feet.

Feed Timing

In summer serve feed in cooler part of day, beacuse when chicken digest the feed they gernate heat. Best time for chicken in hot summer is early morning or late evening. Additionally, use balance diet they easily digest in summer. 

Provide dust bath 

Chicken love to take dust bath, especially in hot summer. They keep their feather clean and cool down the body temperature. And also prevent the parasites or mites. Provide sandy dust area for dust bath.

Ventilation

Ventillation is vesy important for chicken in both season summer or winter. Make sure your chicken coop is enough amount of fresh air ventilation they easily cerculate the coop. Intall window in coop for ventillation improvement even use ventillaion fans to improve air circulation. Less ventillation area cause different breath diseases in poultry farming.

Watermelon

Chicken love watermelon in hot summer. Watermelon is natural electrolye for chicken. Watermelon is 90% of water they help to stay hyadate the chicken and also full of nutrients value Vitamin A, B6, or C. this vitamin also promote the chicken growth production. Precaution: If the chicken diarrhea after eating the watermelon so dont serve them.

Frozen Vegitables

Frozen vegitables is best choice for serve chicken in summer, but all vegitables not suitbale for chicken. Here these vegitables are suitbale for chickens in summer’ Peas, Corn, Carrot, Greenbeans.
